Recent research shows that speaking a foreign language can postpone the effects of dementia by up to 5 years.

Lingo Flamingo therefore provide tailored outreach language workshops to older adults delaying the effects of dementia by keeping older adults` brains fit and active.

In the classes they incorporate memory tips throughout to assist with learners remembering new vocabulary. They teach by evoking different senses to make language learning fun and accessible for all.

Choosing to learn a language with Lingo Flamingo means you are directly supporting their social mission: to bring language learning to older adults in care homes and day centres across Scotland.

Language learning is a powerful therapeutic tool for those living with dementia, as well as being an excellent preventative against dementia in later life.

Lingo Flamingo are a not-for-profit and use revenue towards furthering their social mission.

Languages courses available include French, Spanish, Italian, German, Polish, Danish, Japanese and Portuguese.

We offer free taster sessions in the communities depending on tutor availability and location. We are an outreach service therefore we provide the service to the venue that hosts our classes.

The language classes in the community are for up to 12-14 people at beginner level and the total cost of a 10 weeks full program (including tutoring, materials and tutor expenses with one hour class per week) is £450, or £45 per class for the group.
